Facial rehabilitative device based on Robogami (Robotic Origami) platform

چکیده
Prior art Facial paralysis is a disability that can be caused by infections, accidents, strokes or tumors. There is “an emerging rehabilitation science of neuromuscular reeducation” [1] to help the patients with facial 10 paralysis restore their muscle activity. The therapy method for these patients is still very dependent on the therapist’s experience and even diagnosis remains to be subjective. Rehabilitative devices can enhance the therapy but due to the complexity of the face movements and the spatial limitations there are not many examples of such devices and the few available devices are very limited in number of degrees of freedom (DoF), functionality and adaptability for different therapy methods. The prior art patent documents listed 15 in Table 1 are divided in to three categories: general arrays of stimulating and sensing electrodes that are applicable for different limbs, face specific application of such electrodes (stimulating and sensing), and resistive training masks.

Tribot, a Multi-Modal Locomotive Origami Robot: Construction and Control
Tribot is an origami robot (robogami) that has two modes of locomotion, jumping and crawling, that can be selected simultaneously upon meeting an obstacle. Designed in an origami-folding pattern combined with spring shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators, Tribot maintains the architecture rather simple by selectively and strategically activating different sets of actuators and sequences to switch b...
متن کاملDynamics and Motion Control of Wheeled Robotic Systems
Mobile robotic systems, which include a mobile platform with one or more manipulators, mounted at specific locations on the mobile base, are of great interest in a number of applications. In this paper, after thorough kinematic studies on the platform and manipulator motions, a systematic methodology will be presented to obtain the dynamic equations for such systems without violating the base n...

متن کاملDesign, Evaluation and Prototyping of a New Robotic Mechanism for Ultrasound Imaging
This paper presents a new robotic mechanism for ultrasound imaging. The device is placed on a patient's body by an operator, and an ultrasound expert controls the motions of the device to obtain ultrasound images. The paper focuses on the robotic mechanism that performs ultrasound imaging. The design of the mechanism is based on two approaches to produce center of motion for an ultrasound probe...
متن کاملRobotic Origami Folding Robotic Origami Folding
Origami, the art of paper sculpture, is a fresh challenge for the field of robotic manipulation, and provides a concrete example of the many difficulties and general manipulation problems faced in robotics. This paper describes our initial exploration, and highlights key problems in the manipulation, modeling, and design of foldable structures. Results include the design of the first origami-fo...
